Tips & FAQs
How do I place an ad?
If you are new here, you will need to register for an account before you do so (see below). Once logged in, you can click the “Place an Ad” button and it will take you through the quick process of creating your ad. Once your ad is approved by an administrator of West Cork Friday Ad, your advertisement will appear on the website and will also appear in the next printed issue of West Cork Friday Ad (excludes Tuition and Services).
How do I register for an account?
Press the “Join Now!” button and you will be taken through simple steps to create your account.
Note: It is important that you use a valid email address because other members may wish to respond to your advertisement via the email contact form on your published ad.
Alternatively, we have given you the option to create an account here with either your Facebook, Twitter, Google, LinkedIn or Yahoo account. Registration is as simple as pressing the relevant icon and agreeing to allow your social network account to connect to West Cork Friday Ad.
Do I need to register for an account?
No. You can browse all advertisements freely and respond to ads via telephone. You only need to create an account if you would like to place your own advertisement or reply to a published ad via email from our website.
How long will my ad be live on the site?
Every ad, bar none, will appear for 30 days from date of placement/approval.
How do I manage my ads?
Go to Manage Your Ads and you will see all ads that you have placed with us.
You will see that you have options available. They are to edit your ad, delete your ad, pause your ad and mark as sold. Pausing your ad temporarily removes your ad from the site, this is useful if you are going on holiday and do not wish to be contacted whilst away. You can reactivate it upon your return.
What are Premium Ads?
We have four sections that are regarded as premium and require a payment of €3.50 for each ad placed in these sections. The sections are Motoring (anything related to motor-powered vehicles), Services (advertising your trade or business), Classes & Tuition and Property & Rentals.
NOTE: Motoring and Property for a private individual will also appear free in the printed version of West Cork Friday Ad. Tuition and Services have an additional charge in the printed version. Please call 023 8835696 for details. Any ad placed in a free section either intentionally or by mistake which ought to be placed in a premium section will not be approved, will not appear on our website and will not appear in the printed version of West Cork Friday Ad.
What are Featured Listings?
This is a great way to make your item stand out from the others on our website. When placing your ad you will see an option to make your ad a Featured Listing. The fee for this is €3.50. Once you have paid for this, your ad will appear on the homepage in the highlighted featured section (ads slide through as if on a conveyor belt). Your ad will also appear at the top of listings for the category within which it is placed, it will also have a ‘featured ribbon’ to distinguish it from other advertisements.
How do I pay?
All payments are made securely using PayPal. You do not need to have a PayPal account to make payments, you can use your Visa, Mastercard or American Express card to pay your fee.
Once you have paid, our administrator will approve your advertisement, publish it on the website and place it in the next edition of the West Cork Friday Ad supplement within the West Cork People newspaper (excludes Tuition and Services).
What if I am not seeking payment for my item?
When prompted to enter a price when placing your ad, simply enter “FREE“.
What if I don’t want to be contacted by phone?
When prompted to enter your phone number when placing your ad, simply enter “EMAIL ONLY“.
Will my ad also feature in the printed version of West Cork Friday Ad?
Yes, our administrators will collect your ads and publish them in the West Cork Friday Ad supplement within each edition of the West Cork People newspaper.
NOTE: Your ad may be edited because of space restrictions within the paper.
Can I add multiple items?
We would prefer you to add each item individually, however, we understand that some of you may have a number of items to sell at one time, for instance, a house clearance sale. If this applies to you, please choose the Miscellaneous category when creating your advertisement. When prompted for a price, please enter “SEE DESCRIPTION“. Then, within the description, ensure you list and price each item for sale.
Why hasn’t my ad appeared on the site?
Every advertisement placed must be approved by the website’s administrators. We aim to approve ads within 48 hours of placement, however, we cannot guarantee this owing to working hours, weekends, public holidays, etc.
In order to be approved, each ad must conform to our Terms & Conditions and be placed in the correct category. If payment is required, that also needs to be confirmed before your advertisement will appear on the website and in the printed version of West Cork Friday Ad.
Why won’t my image upload?
The main reason is that your image(s) is likely to be too large. We have set a limit of 500kb per image for upload to our website. We recommend that you edit your images before uploading so that they are below this size. You can use an image editor such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Elements to do this, or, use an online tool such as Pic Resize or Resize Your Image. There are other services and software available to do this.
Why do I have a profile? What’s it for?
If you intend to use this site regularly, then the profile, which can be viewed on your ad’s pages, is a great way to help instil trust between you and your potential customers. Here you can add a profile image, add a biography, add a statement of intent for how you use West Cork Friday Ad, allow people to connect with you via Facebook and Twitter. You can use it as your personal space to communicate with our site’s visitors. This facility is particularly good for ‘power users’.
Of course, you also have the option to not update your profile at all.
What are tags?
Think of ‘tags’ as keywords that relate to your advertisement. These allow our website users to find your ad more easily in search results. For instance, you may wish to sell your laptop, so you might tag it with “Laptop, Apple, MacBook Air”. Then, someone specifically looking for an Apple laptop will find your ad ahead of other laptop manufacturers.
What are Sponsored Ads?
These are premium advertisement slots that are available to individuals, businesses and services who wish to reach our audience with targeted advertising. These are offered at the discretion of West Cork People. If you would like to advertise, please contact the West Cork People on 023 8835696 or 023 8835698.
